This is a photo I took of a baby little blue penguin at the aquarium in Boston. It’s it such a cutie?

He just got out of the water after taking a quick little swim.

373 Penguins rescued

“In Brazil, 373 young Magellanic penguins were rescued, rehabilitated and released last weekend after their search for food left them stranded, hundreds of miles from their usual feeding grounds…

Some penguins are still being cared for, both in the north and south of Brazil. The newly released birds have bands on their flippers so scientists can follow their progress and learn more about their migratory habits.”

The International Fund for Animal Welfare says it was 372 penguins… what’s happened to the last little penguin? There’s not a lot of talk on their website about the event, but If you’d like to support their efforts, you can donate to help animals in need. Visit their site to watch their penguin release video.

Cream Cheese Penguins

This is such a cute idea! I haven’t had the opportunity to try these yet, a friend just sent me the recipie today. But they’re so darn cute I had to share right now!

Cream Cheese Penguins

18 jumbo black olives, pitted
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
18 small black olives
1 carrot

1. Cut a slit from top to bottom, lengthwise, into the side of each jumbo olive. Carefully insert about 1 teaspoon of cream cheese into each olive. Slice the carrot into eighteen 1/4 inch thick rounds; cut a small notch out of each carrot slice to form feet. Save the cut out piece and press into center of small olive to form the beak. If necessary cut a small slit into each olive before inserting the beak.

2. Set a big olive, large hole side down, onto a carrot slice. The, set a small olive into the large olive, adjusting so that the beak, cream cheese chest and notch in the carrot slice line up. Secure with a toothpick.

Singing Rockhopper Penguins

Here is a quick little video I took of rockhopper penguins as they sing. I don’t know if anyone else would say they’re singing, but they sure were happy and making a lot of noise. I was sure they were about to bust out a few moves.

I think they were happy just being together - and it was just after or just before lunch time.. so food definitely plays a role. Who wouldn’t be happy with food somewhere near by? Regardless, happy penguins… that’s what we have here.

Penguin Parade at Phillip Island

Phillip Island Nature Parks is an island adventure about 90 minutes from Melbourne in Australia. Each night at sunset, the Little Penguins, the smallest of the penguins, emerge from the sea and waddle ashore to their sand dune burrows. This “attraction” is the winner of the Victorian Tourism Awards for Ecotourism.

Snares Island penguin rescued

A project leader at the Department of Primary Industries in Tasmania rescued a badly injured penguin. The penguin was cut along his back, obviously tired and hungry. Dr Pemberton took the ailing penguin home to a special compound and nursed the bird back to health.

A Penguin’s Guide to Happiness

I’ve decided, with so many books out there about penguins, I would start featuring a book once in a while. We can just sit around staring at penguins all day can we? Reading is good.. right.. so lets read with the penguins and be happy about it.

So on that thought, here’s the first book…

A Penguin’s Guide to a Happy Life

According to reviews, it’s full of fantastic photographs and fun little “instructions” for life’s joys. Probably a great book for both adults and kids.
