The Fort Wayne children’s zoo sent two young penguins to help retivalize the Aquarium of the Americas in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The entire original penguin colony survived hurricane Katrina, but were sent away for a year while the facility was rebuilt. The colony returned home in May of 2006 and now the program is hoping that these two new residents will mate…. adding baby penguins to the community. I just ran across an interesting article about a woman that loves penguins probably even more than I do. Her name is Norma Horrocks, but her students call her “the penguin lady” and she has written a wonderful fact based children’s book about penguins, “Early Bird - Late Bird“. You can get it right now from Amazon…
“EARLY BIRD-LATE BIRD is a fictional story about a Gentoo penguin family based on information collected from an expedition to Antarctica… in 1995. ” Research was collected mainly about Gentoo, Chinstrap, Adelie, Macaroni, Rockhopper and Magellenic penguins.”

But not in the penguin trash bin! I’ve been side tracked making fun little penguin plushies and completely forgot to blog my other penguin fun things. I’m so sorry!
Here’s a cute photo I found… public trash bin with penguins surrounding it. Taken December 3rd 2006 in town of Penguin, Tasmania.
Now, how can you through trash in a can surrounded by penguins? Fish maybe, but real garbage? I dont know that I could. too cute!
