The London Zoo has revamped it’s penguin exhibit into a fabulous new penguin beach. The new exhibit is call Penguin Pool and is is now home to two species of penguins, Blackfooted Penguins (aka African Penguins) and Rockhopper Penguins. These penguins moved to the new Penguin Pool from their previous home at the Lubetkin Pool. The London Zoo Penguin Pool features plenty of space for the penguins to swim and play as well as private areas for the penguins to nest and rest.

The pool looks fabulous to me. there is even an underwater viewing area where visitors can watch the penguins as they swim under water. I’d love to see photos you’ve taken of this fantastic new penguin exhibit in London!

Three New Penguins have arrived at the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, South Carolina. A Rockhopper chick hatched June 18th, the first chick born to the zoo in about 5 years. The Penguin Coast exhibit also has two new adult king penguins, Niles and Frederico, age 21. Wow, their just old enough to start the grown up party.

Next weekend I am going on a little family trip – there’s a wedding to go see and celebrate. But I’ve also taken the opportunity to squeeze in some penguin fun. One week from tomorrow I will (hopefully) be visiting the new penguin exhibit at the Woodland park zoo in Seattle, Washington. Then the next day I’ll be visiting the penguins at the Portland zoo. Maybe we’ll see some more penguins on the way!

The Tennessee is swarming with baby penguins these days. Just within the last 24 hours the Gentoo penguin pair, Peep and Poncho have laid their second egg.

I first discovered this story from my friend wiinterrr over at Gentoo Penguins at O’Higgins Station blog. She posted the “Tennessee Aquarium expecting more penguins“, I read further to find out the aquarium has had a few new penguin additions recently. So, I did a little digging around and found the Tennessee Aquarium on twitter where they announced the second egg was laid today. YAY for more penguins I say.

The aquarium has recently had a Macaroni chick hatch as well. You can see photos of the happy Macaroni penguins on the Tennessee Aquarium’s facebook page. If you snoop around a bit, you’ll also find at the “penguins nesting” photo album.

I visited the Tennessee Aquarium years ago loved it. I have been aching to go back the last year or so… now I know why; there’s penguin chicks waiting for happy hellos. If you are nearby stop by and shout a hello for me, will ya please?

The Audubon Institute in New Orleans is holding a contest to name their penguin chick that hatched on Februrary 9th, 2009. The contest is only open to members, but you are welcome to purchase a membership if you’d like to submit a penguin name.

So cute, I just want to give it a tiny little hug! This zoo is another location I hadn’t heard of yet. So I jumped over to their website and found a fabulous family of penguins. Looks to me like there are currently 23 penguins… plus the new baby – and they have a pretty nice habitat.

The penguins at the Columbus Zoo in Ohio must be spoiled rotten! This is, by far, one of the best websites I’ve seen so far when it comes to really engaging site visitors. I can only imagine what it’s like to visit the penguins in person when they are treated so fabulously online!

Check out all the great penguin info. In the birds section, choose the penguins from the menu and then on the lower right you’ll see “Meet the Family”. Its a fantastic display with info and photos for 10 different penguins. I only wish I lived close enough to visit them today!

I am so excited! According to the Seattle Times, a new penguin exhibit is due to open May, 2009 at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, Washington. Hooray! I say. Seattle is one of my absolute favorite places to visit and now It definitely will be at the top of my list.

The exhibit will even include an underwater viewing and is said to be the biggest new attraction at the zoo in a decade!

The zoo also has a few fundraisers to help with the project… Adopt a Penguin and the “Your Name Here” campaign. Oh how I wish I had an extra $1k to share for the sake of penguins.

I think I’ll definitely be heading to Seattle this coming summer!
